The Canadian Way to SOL

A step-by-step walkthrough for Canadians, written for someone who has never done any of this. One small step at a time.

In plain words

Solana is a network — think of it as a road system that moves digital money and tokens. SOL is the money that system runs on, the fuel for the roads: every move on Solana costs a tiny bit of SOL, usually a few cents. To take part in Project PAW, you need a little SOL in a wallet of your own. This guide buys SOL the simple Canadian way — in the Wealthsimple app — and then sends it to your own wallet.

Step 1

Open a Wealthsimple account

Wealthsimple is a Canadian app for buying stocks and crypto. If you do not have an account yet, open one through our link and follow the app's own sign-up screens. It will ask for ID — that is normal for a Canadian financial app.

OPEN WEALTHSIMPLE →

This is our referral link. It costs you nothing extra; Wealthsimple gives Project PAW a small thank-you when someone joins through it.

Step 2

Put some Canadian dollars in

In the Wealthsimple app, add money from your bank — most people use an Interac e-Transfer or a linked bank account. Start small. You can always add more later.

Step 3

Buy Solana (SOL)

In the app, search for Solana and tap Buy. Choose a small amount to start — enough to learn with. You now own SOL. It lives in your Wealthsimple account, a bit like money sitting in a bank account.

Step 4

The wait — read this one carefully

New money needs time to settle. Wealthsimple holds new deposits for about 5 business days before crypto bought with them can be sent out of the app.

Your SOL is yours, and you can watch it in the app the whole time. It just cannot travel yet. That is a Wealthsimple safety rule, not a problem with your account. When the wait is over, come back and do Step 5.

Step 5

Get your wallet address ready

A wallet is an app that holds crypto for you — and only you. No bank in the middle. Your address is a public string of letters and numbers that tells people where to send things to your wallet, like an email address for money. It is safe to share; nobody can take anything out of your wallet with only the address.

If you do not have a wallet yet, our Phantom guide sets one up in about five minutes, then shows you exactly where your address is (tap Receive, then Solana, then copy it).

Step 6

Send your SOL to your own wallet

Back in Wealthsimple: tap the Move tab, then Send crypto. Pick Solana. Paste your wallet address — paste it, never type it by hand. Check the first few and last few characters against your wallet, one more time. Choose how much SOL to send, review, and tap Send.

The network charges a small fee, usually a few cents. Your SOL usually arrives in your wallet within about 30 minutes. (Wealthsimple says it can take up to 24 hours on a slow day — that is rare.)

Step 7

Send a little first

The first time, send a small amount. Watch it arrive in your wallet. Then send the rest with a steady hand. This is Wealthsimple's own advice, and it is good advice for every step in this guide.

You did it

Your SOL now sits in a wallet that only you hold. From here, Guide B shows you how to swap a little of that SOL for ETHOS — and your welcome gift is waiting on the next page.
